United Hatzalah volunteer Benny Meshulam was the first medic on the scene and even succeeded in overpowering the terrorist. Meshulam told the Kan news outlet that “I was travelling in my car and I saw soldiers lying on the road and a terrorist, whom I could see holding his knife. I immediately stopped my car, ran to the terrorist, punched and kicked him and overpowered him. After other bystanders succeeded in containing him on the ground, I ran to treat the soldiers, who had suffered penetrating injuries. I did what every citizen ought to do, it is my civic duty.”

The victims were evacuated to the Shamir-Asaf HaRofeh Medical Center, located nearby in Be’er Yaakov.

MDA paramedic Moshe Gelbstein, said that both of the soldiers were conscious, one was sitting on the sidewalk and the other lying on the ground.

“We provided them with medical first aid, including bandaging and stopping the bleeding. We then loaded them quickly onto mobile intensive care units and evacuated them to hospital while one victim was in serious condition and the other in light condition. Security forces at the scene neutralized the terrorist.”

The terrorist was identified as a 21-year-old Hevron resident who was authorized to work in settlements in Judea and Samaria but not in greater Israel. Security forces believe that the terrorist acted alone but do not know how he succeeded in reaching the Tzrifin junction.

Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanoua lauded the stabbing attack, saying: “We welcome the heroic stabbing attack as part of the ongoing response to Israel’s crimes, the aggression against the Al Aqsa Mosque, and the expected invasion tomorrow and the attempt to bring the [Pascal] sacrifice.”
