R’ Yisrael grew up in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem and studied at the Torah Be’Tifarta yeshiva in Elad. Friends described him as a big masmid who was one of the prominent members of the yeshiva. He later married and settled in Elad, where he studied at a local kollel.
After R’ Yisrael’s disappearance, a large scale search was initiated involving hundreds of policemen, IDF forces and volunteers. The forces used advanced technology, a helicopter, navy boats and motorboats and other methods to try and locate him. The forces scoured the lake and nearby undergrowth in an attempt to locate the missing man.
Israel Police thanked all the forces and volunteers for participating in the searches.
The tragedy has marred a family simcha, as R’ Yisrael’s sister is due to get married in a few weeks time.
The levaya took place at 12 AM in Jerusalem’s Har Hamenuchos
May his memory be blessed.

Please be aware! Although the Kinneret looks like a calm lake, there is a strong whirlpool in the middle. I almost got caught in it years ago. I am so upset that no one has warned about this.! Do not swim alone there!
