JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The leaders of the protests against the Israeli government will focus their next protest against the chareidi community, holding an “equality day” in which they demand equality in the economic sphere and in army service.

After numerous protests against judicial reforms, the heads of the protest movement now intend to target those studying Torah who do not serve in the IDF or join the workforce.

The protests will take place in different places in Israel, but the planned protest in Bnei Brak has been cancelled. Instead, the hi-tech workers will protest at the Sarona compound in Tel Aviv at 11 AM Thursday, while doctors and health workers will protest in Beersheva at 12 PM, Kibbutz members will protest at Tzemach near Kinneret at 3:30 PM and at 5 PM students and faculty from the Weitzman Institute in Rehovot will join the protests.

At 5:30 PM protesters intend to march near the Kol Torah yeshiva in Bayit V’Gan, in a march described as “mothers wearing army berets.” The heads of the yeshiva have instructed all students to remain in the building of the yeshiva until the last protester has left the area.

In the evening various exhibitions are planned for Tel Aviv and other cities, with the theme being to encourage equality in army service.

Currently the government is not promoting the new revised draft law, and most of the chareidi parties have agreed to allow the budget to pass first before the government focuses on the issue.

These people have a valid point. Even in the time of Moshe Rabbeinu people were needed to serve in the armed forces. Nobody ever told Moshe that they were exempt because they sat and learned. Dovid Hamelech could never have conquered Eretz Canaan without an army.

5TResident There are about 10% of chareidi boys/men who perform army service, either in chareidi unit, or as a ‘jobnik’ – working in an office/driving. This is not a new fight, its been going on for 75 years, but while they try to balance the numbers, the new draft law could give an exemption to yeshiva men at earlier age. It is also heavily pivoting on funding – If you claim religious exemption you can sit & learn, but the yeshivos get money for it.

It’s Sarona, not Sharona in Tel Aviv. Also, it seems like the time should be 11:00 AM, not 11:00 PM.

Question: if battlefields were entirely safe but yeshivos were Gd forbid constantly shot up and ongoing casualties ensued, would the demographics of charedi percentages in each location change?

This kind of protest should be banned. One shouldn’t be allowed to bully and scare kids. Its harrasment. Protest in tel Aviv gezunta heit but not in neighboorhoods where children ride bikes and in front of a yeshiva with children., Its kind of creepy and scary

Such a waste of time . Do they really think charedim will ever join the army on a massive scale? Its just like a moral thing. They want some law on the books that charedim will never listen to and then they get yell more at them. practically cahredim will never seve. its just not option no matter how much you yell You can’t force a million people to follow a law they aren’t interested in. Thats life. As they say in ivrit “Ein mah lasot”
