JERUSALEM (VINnews) —Noa Kirel, who represented Israel in this year’s Eurovision contest, received 12 points from Poland during the final competition. Kirel eventually finished third in the contest.

Afterwards, Kirel was quoted as saying that from her perspective, “Receiving 12 points from Poland after nearly the entire Kirel family was murdered in the Holocaust – that is a victory.”

Kirel’s statements have raised a furor in Poland, which has long disassociated itself from the Holocaust. In 2018, Poland’s Senate passed a controversial bill that outlaws blaming Poland for any crimes committed during the Holocaust.

Popular paper Do Rzeczy claimed that, “The Israeli artist recalled the Holocaust, and blamed the Poles for the murder of Jews.”

Polish MP Anna Maria Żukowska tweeted, “Does this statement reflect the level of education about the Holocaust in Israel? Do young people in Israel think that the Holocaust was caused by Poland, over which a young Israeli citizen can achieve a moral victory after many years, or what?”

Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński tweeted, ““The fact that many people in Israel consider Poland to be an accomplice to German crimes – and not their victim – is often the result not so much of bad will as lack of knowledge and incomplete education.”

Jabłoński also added that he intends to invite Kirel for an official visit to his country.

While the Holocaust was perpetrated by Germany, it chose to build many of its concentration camps on Polish soil, recognizing the antisemitic nature of the country’s citizens. Many Poles helped the Nazis find Jews, and looted their abandoned homes, although there were also the highest number of righteous gentiles from Poland.

The 1941 massacre of at least 340 of Jedwabne’s Jews was carried out by Poles and the Kielce pogrom in 1946 against Jewish refugees who returned there after the war during which 42 Jews were killed was carried out by Polish soldiers, police officers, and civilians. Poland has long wrestled with the question of its complicity in the Holocaust.

Anyone who was there and survived or anyone who heard stories from their survivor parents, knows the truth. The truth hurts. Sorry Poles.

I have seen and heard from many Poles how they deny the very fact, how many collaborated with Nazis.
On the contrast, there were many, (though much less( that risked their lives to save Jews

Hence, is a dicey issue…

Research suggests that about 200,000 Jews were killed directly by Poles or by collaboration with the Germans, i.e. locating Jews in hiding/turning them over, etc. If so, that is about 8% of the amount of Polish Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Poland as a state/govt. was not complicit in the murders, though certainly a small part of its citizens were involved. Had it not been for Poland being historically rather anti-Semitic, the death camps would not have been built there by the Nazis. There were also death camps in several Baltic countries, as those populations were equally hateful of Jews, and the Nazis knew the locals wouldn’t object to what was going on in those “camps”. BTW, does anyone know of any Latvian Jews who survived the Holocaust? Never heard of any. The locals there were worse than the Polish.

The problem is that the majority of yidden have no context of the anti semitism that is caused by their blatant lack of respect and hatred of goyim whom they perceive to be worthless creations. You can’t go around with hatred in your heart and think that no-one takes notice.

There were more concentration camps in Poland because the Germans would have rioted if they knew what was happening to the Jews. That being said, the general population of Poland is much more open to Jews.
