NEW YORK (Yaakov M / VINnews) — Eliza Shapiro, the so-called NY Times “journalist” who’s made it her life’s mission to attack yeshivas, has been embarrassed on twitter by former City Councilman David Greenfield.

After posting a disingenuous tweet against a renowned Mashgiach from Torah V’Daas which was promptly debunked by Greenfield, she confessed that it’s a yeshiva with strong secular studies and she praised its curriculum.

Shapiro, who poses as a journalist but targets yeshivas venomously and whose articles are seething with bias, tweeted in response to pictures of Rav Moshe Wolfson presenting Mayor Eric Adams with an award.

Rabbi Wolfson hosted the mayor in his home in the presence of many administrators from Brooklyn, to thank him for his unwavering support of Yeshiva education. He was presented with a plaque signed by over 50 Yeshiva administrators.

“Being that I am not a political personality, I shy away from political involvement,” Rav Wolfson said. “Tonight I have made an exception for an exceptional person.”

Rav Wolfson conveyed a “deep expression of gratitude for the assistance granted our community especially in aiding our development of our most precious commodity: our dear children. Our children are our future, are G-d’s gift to us, and any help we receive in raising them to be an honor to G-d, refined, valuable, productive adults, is greatly appreciated.”

At one point Adams said, “It’s unfortunate that those outside your community don’t understand that all you want to do is live in peace, educate your children and be able to provide for your community.”

Adams has been a close friend of the Jewish community for years, dating back to his tenure as Brooklyn Boro President, and the award was well deserved.

Shapiro tweeted: “The Adams administration is currently investigating the quality of secular education in Hasidic yeshivas across Brooklyn.”

In response, Greenfield wrote, “To be fair, the Rabbi who is honoring the Mayor, Rabbi Wolfson, is the senior dean of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas – a “ultra-orthodox” yeshiva where students take the Regents and go on to some of the best colleges and grad schools in the country.”

Shapiro conceded the point, tweeting: “Absolutely! Torah Vodaas is not being investigated by the city. A good example of how a yeshiva can combine strong secular studies with a robust religious curriculum.”

Others on Twitter slammed Shapiro as well.

Community leader Yosef Hershkop of Crown Heights wrote, “Torah vodaas leadership understands that the attacks encouraged by Eliza and rest of the gang are an attack on all yeshivas they didn’t take lightly the decision to embrace the struggle.”

Askan Chaskel Bennett tweeted, “More impartiality from a ‘journalist’ called out for her lack of impartiality. (And of course blocks the non sycophants from comments.)”

Someone who calls himself ‘Yakovolf’ tweeted, “Ye Shapiro is furious that Orthodox Jews are represented by their elected government.”

A Twitter user known as “Am Yisroel Chai” replied: “This loathsome antisemite, also known as the ‘Jewish’-Kayne, wants you to know that (((they))) control your politicians…Of course, she only opens her comment to the sycophants ימ”ש.”

This paragraph shows what a farce Shapiro is. She knows with all her investigations that there is a vast cultural difference between the children going to Torah vodaas and those who go to chasidic schools. For starters TV students speak English as a first language. Second TV starts English in First grade and perhaps even a little in pre1a. The chasidic shools are very careful not to mix the learning of alef bais with abc so they won’t start English until Kita Gimel. Third, TV has a high school and gives regents No chasidic school will let their students learn English after bar mitzva. Stolin and Chasan Sofer are the only hold outs among chasidic schools that still have a high school and regents.

Let’s stop calling other Jews “Kanye,” shall we?
Also, VIN, incoherent reply tweets by random anonymous people are not newsworthy.

We should not have to care or report on what one vicious, clueless person reports. However, since it gets spread as facts, so we need to fight for the truth.

Greenfield is wrong as usual. Rav Wolfson Shlit’a while known as the Mashgiach, hasn’t been in Torah Vodaas on a regular basis in well over 20 years. But what else can we expect from a liberal politician.

To all you naysayers and fake news who says the mashgiach doesn’t represent Torah vodaath. Well how many of you heard of yeshiva mevakshi Hashem? Whose yeshiva is that ? Do you know that it’s a chasdisha yeshiva whose students all take regents and it has a secular studies department? Guess who that yeshiva is geared for ? Munis and it follows that guidance of R Wolfson . So all you guys are fake news

Even if a Hasidic school does give NY Regents exams, their graduates are unlikely to attend regular universities. If they do get higher formal secular education, it is likely to be in a special limited program, designed to limit exposure to the outside world.

R. Moshe Wolfson was not at that meeting representing YTV. He is not really active at YTV these days. He was rather acting in another role that he occupies, as a Hasidic leader, the Rebbe of the Emunas Yisrael Hasidic sect of Boro Park (there are branches elsewhere as well), which does not advocate secular studies in such way.
