JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The scourge of rats which has been harming the residents of Bnei Brak in recent months continues unabated throughout the city. Worshipers in one of the shuls in the city were horrified to find that one of the Sifrei Torah in the city had been gnawed by the rodents- rendering it invalid.

This followed an attack on a two-year-old child a few weeks ago, who was bitten by a rat and required hospitalization.
Yaakov Wieder, a member of the city council and the head of the Likud faction, is leading the fight against the rats and other rodents and called on the government to deal with the situation.
“A quarter of a million residents of Bnei Brak are suffering from this terrible plague of rats and weasels which endanger life and limb and nobody cares,” Wieder said. “I call on the government to declare Bnei Brak a dangerous zone and to issue an injunction forcing the city to immediately take steps to eliminate this scourge.”
Is there a reason the rats nibbled on the song of Haazeinu?
There’s a message there!
this is the whole reason why Chazal were gozer tuma’as yadayim on kisvei hakodesh
Why is there no metal safe for the sefer torah
The gemara in bava basra says that they would store documents in earthernwere vessels to protect them from being chewed up by mice
As Reb Chaim could of said: Be Makpid on Netilas yadayim &/or learn hilchos Netilas Yadayim as a sekula
The government also responded here in Jerusalem (regarding a cat problem) with a request to be more sanitary. Individual initiative (do it yourself) solved the problem. Rat poison, and traps, are available at hardware stores here. (I also suggested the rat terrior.)
will the rats join yaffed?
