Biden Pleads With Israeli Gvt. In NYT Interview: ‘Stop Judicial Reforms Without Broad Consensus’

17

NEW YORK (VINnews) — In a special interview initiated by President Biden with New York Times correspondent Thomas Friedman, the president made a passionate plea to the Netanyahu government to “Please stop now [judicial reforms]. Don’t pass anything this important without a broad consensus, or you are going to break something with Israel’s democracy and with your relationship with America’s democracy, and you may never be able to get it back.”

Biden expressed his admiration for the “vibrancy of Israel’s democracy” exhibited in the “enduring” protests during the last seven months, but also expressed his “deep worry for the stability and future of Israel”

“This is obviously an area about which Israelis have strong views, including in an enduring protest movement that is demonstrating the vibrancy of Israel’s democracy, which must remain the core of our bilateral relationship,” Biden told Friedman. “Finding consensus on controversial areas of policy means taking the time you need. For significant changes, that’s essential. So my recommendation to Israeli leaders is not to rush. I believe the best outcome is to continue to seek the broadest possible consensus here.”

Even Friedman realized that Biden’s plea is an almost unprecedented interference in internal Israeli politics and suggested that the president is “walking a tightrope” of showing respect to Israel – even finally inviting Netanyahu to Washington after seven months of cold shoulder from the administration – while displaying his concern for Israel’s internal cohesion and future relations with the US.

Friedman also stressed that “Every Israeli leader should ponder this line from Biden: The protest movement demonstrates ‘the vibrancy of Israel’s democracy, which must remain the core of our bilateral relationship.’

Friedman interpreted this to mean that if Netanyahu passes the judicial reforms despite public opposition “it will inevitably compromise the domestic and international stature of Israel’s Supreme Court and, by extension, of Israel’s democracy.” He also warned that ‘Joe Biden may be the last pro-Israel Democratic president. You ignore his sincere concerns at your peril.’

This is chutzpa. Biden is a guy is someone who considered court packing and probably would have if he was popular enough to get away with it. He is has issue with justice reform to the extent of meddling into the internal affairs of another county?

The Israeli should stop judicial reform without broad consensus but this no good son of a biscuit can do the same thing here without broad consensus? He should just tell POTUS to go to purgatory.

Besides, apparently most people in Israel don’t understand what the judicial reform is really all about. Can you imagine the United States and having the Supreme Court Justice if more powerful than the president? Where if a law is made that the Supreme Court Justice or the Attorney General arbitrarily doesn’t like, they can stop the law and its tracks? It’s currently insane and netanyahu is correct for wanting to change the law.

Maybe sleepy Joe should stop being concerned about Israel and be more concerned about the United States. If he could stay up long enough and stay cognizant.

BIDEN: Let the Leader of the State of Israel run his Departments of Law – and Justice with equal Kindness Truth and Justice as our Current Department of Justice, FBI and CIA. Do not change its current status. This will cause and bring harm to our mutual relationship.

NETANYAHU: Dear Mr President — in our Democracy in our Country – Justice ALWAYS must be blind before the individual and equal to each individual – we are not driven by “public” pressure or by seen or unseen monetary gains. If there are visible signs of injustice present we must and we will Stop this – this is called Freedom. Our Justice system needs immeduate attention – and – as necessary repair. This is a universal Truth. This is our Truth.
