Entire 15-Member Panel Of Israel’s High Court To Deliberate Amendment To Reasonability Law

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In an unprecedented move which could lead to a constitutional crisis in Israel, Supreme Court President Esther Hayut announced Monday that for the first time,  the entire panel of 15 supreme court justices would deliberate the Knesset’s amendment to the reasonability law.

The unusual step comes in response to eight petititons submitted against the new amendment to the basic law:judiciary, which limits the court’s ability to review government actions based on their reasonableness. Basic laws are stronger than regular laws and are considered the forerunners of a constitution for Israel, which has yet to be defined.

Opponents of the law say the reasonableness standard serves as a critical safeguard against arbitrary government actions or decisions made for inappropriate reasons, especially with regard to the dismissal or placement of key law enforcement officials.

The coalition argues, however, that the Supreme Court has abused the standard, and that it gave the court too broad a scope to intervene in government policy.

In response to the announcement, in which the court effectively is passing judgment over the government’s ability to reduce its judicial authority, the ruling Likud party stated that Israeli governments “have always been careful to respect the law and the ruling of the court, and the court has always been careful to respect the Basic Laws.

“These two principles form the basis of the rule of law in Israel and of the balance between the branches of authority in any democracy. Any deviation from one of these principles will seriously harm Israel’s democracy,” the Likud party said, calling for “calm, dialogue, and responsibility.”

Other Likud members were much harsher in their criticism of the court, saying that if it intervened in the government’s legislation it would spell “The end of democracy.”

Actually not an exaggeration this time. The court would have declared itself the ruling body of Israel with the Knesset serving a subservient role. There were times when the English kings had similar power vis-a-vis parliament.

The Zionist “State” has been around for the better part of a century and still has no constitution.

The reason is that the only real law the Zionists need is shmad, as in changing the Jewish people and religion from Jewish/Torah to Zionist land-based idolatry. The rest is just for show.

Once again the progressives show their contempt for the elected representatives of the people so they can impose their authoritarian power against the underlings.

The entire Supreme Court should be disbarred for prejudice.

Unfortunately, the left knows no lines, no limits and no respect for the wishes of the people they were appointed to serve. They only care about control and power.

Sure the state is up at night, trying to figure out how turn the Jews into Christian or Muslims.
