Queens Yeshiva Posts Hilarious Tweet Making Fun of Lost Fighter Jet

QUEENS (VINnews) — Yeshiva Har Torah, an orthodox Jewish day school in Queens, posted a tweet Tuesday, poking fun at the US military’s losing track of an F-35 fighter jet.

The amusing tweet read: “We once again remind you to label your child’s F-35 before sending it in to school.”

The satire didn’t stop there. When another Twitter user replied: “Do you suggest iron-on labels? self stick? Laundry Marker?”, the yeshiva account responded: “Iron-on is usually a good option, but check your labels’ heat resistance before applying to an F-35’s carbon fiber/epoxy skin.”

When a different user, unaware of the recent news story about the fighter jet, asked what was being referenced, the Har Torah account sharply replied: “You wouldn’t believe us if we told you.”

The account is known to have a sense of humor. Its bio says: “Our Head of School isn’t on Twitter. He doesn’t need to know about this.”

Although it is not clear if the twitter feed is the yeshiva’s official account or if it’s run by the administration, the school’s home page links to the account using a Twitter icon, suggesting it’s legit.

Prior to Rosh Hashana, the account posted the following two messages:

“You’re really going to make us post a picture of an apple like Every. Single. Organization. Aren’t you?

“Seriously though, what happens if a Jewish nonprofit organization does not post a picture of an apple before Rosh Hashana?”

I don’t see why this is being featured here. Some people may consider it not in good taste. If someone was joking around, that is their issue, but it doesn’t need to be put in a spotlight, given more attention.

Publicizing this story can only make non-Jews hate us,
and accuse us of being disloyal or bad citizens.

Therefore, this entire article is Lashon HaRa.

The military losing a $100 million dollar plane is generally not funny and friends and family of military may find this offensive.

A member of the military almost got killed, and all they can do is joke about the loss of a $50,000,000 warplane.

Not much Hakaras HaTov to the military, or concern for a human being who is risking his life on your behalf.

I once attended a Chumash Shiur given by Rabbi Shmuel Berenbaum, and that week there had just been a parade down 5th Avenue for the Yankees who won the World Series.

This was during the war in Iraq, and the Rosh Yeshiva said, “They should be making a parade for the soldiers who are risking their lives to protect us, not for people who are good at hitting baseballs.”

If there was a person hurt, missing or killed in this incident I can understand those who feel such a joke is in bad taste. But we are talking about a plane. I don’t see anything wrong with this joke.

I’m baffled at how this is considered news, to be honest.

Insensitive, and in poor taste. This article and the post by the school shows how very insensitive and disrespectful folks truly are.

This reminds me of a story I heard after the 6 Day War, about an Israeli pilot who, running short on fuel, landed on a US aircraft carrier. He said to the crew “I’m so sorry, I thought this was one of our carriers.”
