Rav Shmuel Eliyahu: ‘They’ll Prohibit Synagogue Prayer And Circumcision In The Name Of Freedom’

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Rav Shmuel Eliyahu responded sharply to the protests in Tel Aviv over the gender-separate prayers. Rabbi Eliyahu wrote that the “democrats” are attempting to violently foist their values on the traditional and religious public.

“This is not defending against our coercion,” Rabbi Eliyahu wrote. “They are forcing us to pray according to their progressive values.

“Nobody forced them to pray mixed or separate. Nobody forced them to fast or to eat kosher.

“What do we want from them? They have the backing of the court. The next time they tell you that the court protects the minority from the dictatorship of the majority, ask them who it is protecting with this ridiculous ruling. Based on the ruling, people in Haifa were disturbed during prayers in tents, as protesters claimed the shuls were on public property and could not pray with gender separation. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, next the liberals with the progressive judges will prevent us from worshiping in regular shuls. They will find some petitioners who will seek the protection of the courts because they have to pray separately from the men. A “progressive and enlightened” judge will prevent us from praying according to our faith even in shuls, claiming that the shuls are on public property.

“Then petitioners will come and protest the right of parents to circumcise their children. What they didn’t succeed in doing during 2000 years of exile they will do now in the name of ‘freedom and equality.’ All the politicians who give support to these bullying people will explain to you that a prohibition on circumcision is legitimate.

“I’m looking for the center-left man who will dare to raise his voice against this secular coercion, against these violent demonstrators. Someone who understands that the court is leading us into a religious war which we have never seen here.

“For 2000 years we have fought for our freedom of religion and we won’t relinquish it in the state of Israel.”

The Satmar Rebbe Zt”l warned about this decades ago. “There will come a time when it will be impossible to keep Torah in this state”.

It’s really our fault.
Perhaps if we (including our children) hadn’t spent decades mocking them & sneering with glee as we told them we will take over (due to our higher birth rates) & turn Israel into a Frum run country, there’d be more moderates on the Chiloni side who actually trust us & would be willing to work things out.
But let’s be truly honest. If you were a Chiloni in this environment would you be ok with any movement in the Charedi direction?
[It’s ironic that we use the “Slippery slope” argument all the time (as Rav Eliyahu did) & many of us (sadly) believe it’s a valid argument but when it comes from the other side we claim it doesn’t hold water.]

The tried & true Charedi “Slippery Slope” argument.
Just like the argument if Chasidish boys learn a little about the history of the USA & NY, next the govt will demand these schools teach LGBTQ studies.

Maybe all the secularists will want is “equality”, and ALL babies should be circumcised.

What he conveniently forgot to mention is that it’s the ultimate goal of many right wing religious people to turn the Supreme Court into a beis din. Whoever doesn’t like it will be shown the exit door.
