NEW YORK (VINnews) — Chazan Zvi Greenheim, who serves as the chazan of the Beit Knesset Hagadol (Great Shul) in Tel Aviv, was returning this week from Miami to Tel Aviv on a direct flight. During the course of the flight, Greenheim had a discussion with one of the cabin attendants which led to an unusual Bar Mitzva celebration taking place in the clouds.
Greenheim described how “a nice cabin attendant came over and asked me to pray for a certain medical issue.
“I asked him if he was Jewish and he said that he was gentile. I asked him if his mother was Jewish and he replied that she wasn’t but his mother’s mother was Jewish. In fact we found a new Jew on the plane.”

Greenheim explained to him that he was halachically Jewish and required to keep mitzvot and asked him if he wanted to put on Tefillin. The man agreed and Greenheim made a modest Bar Mitzvah celebration for him.
He concluded “Happy are we that we merited making a Bar Mitzvah for this dear Jew.”
Finally a happy news story with no gory pics or details
Bar mitzvah
I guess we can all hope.
Very nice.
The secularists are kvelling.
If a plane is traveling on route where time is moving backward (such as a Concord jet from NY to CA with total flight time of 2 hrs and change in clock of 3 hrs back) and one is donning tefillin on the flight, should one physically don the shel Rosh before the shel yad, which in measured time makes the shel Yad donned first since moving backward in time?
Actually, he said that his mother’s mother’s mother was Jewish!
a “bar mitzvah” means he took upon himself to keep the 613 mitzvos. is this article acurate?
