JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The IDF released for publication that Second Lieutenant Yochai Duchan HyD of Kiryat Arba fell in battle with terrorists during the murderous attacks by Hamas on communities in the Western Negev.

Duchan was the son of Alex Duchan HyD, a member of the Kiryat Arba home platoon who was killed during a shootout with terrorists in Hevron in November 2002. The shootout took place in a dark passage near the Machpela cave and cost the lives of 12 soldiers and civilians.

The Hevron Jewish community reported that “With great sorrow and grief, we annouce the fall in battle of my son and our brother, Second Lieutenant Yochai Duchan HyD, the son of Rivka and Alexander Yonatan HyD. Funeral details will be given later. May Hashem wipe tears off every face.”
Alex had immigrated from France at the age of 18 and joined Border Police, continuing to serve in the reserves. Alex’s four children -Yehuda, Eliyahu, Yochai and Tehila- were educated to love the land of Israel and the Jewish nation and followed in his footsteps.
