Below is a statement from NYS Senator Bill Weber of Rockland, regarding the incident:

“I am extremely troubled by the reported recent egregious actions of Andy Stewart, the Village Administrator of Nyack, and former three-term Orangetown Supervisor.

A national Jewish organization, Stop Antisemitism, has published a photo of Mr. Stewart, with a pile of signs he tore down of civilian hostages, some of whom are American, taken by Hamas on October 7th.

This disturbing behavior goes against the principles of tolerance, respect, and empathy that we, as a society, should uphold.

Similar activity has taken place in other locations across the United States. It is especially disturbing to see it taking place here in Rockland County.

I am calling for a thorough investigation into this documented incident and consequences for these actions.”

Hmmm. Village official (as opposed to a private citizen) selectively (?) removing political posters may fall under a USA constitutional rights violation of protected speech.
Someone who is better versed in the law than I am, is welcome to chime in.

The point is that if he really has the inner urge to be so respectful of public property, he may have the right to remove them. (I wonder if he gently removed them or he tore them down.) But he can’t even look away from that un”holy inner desire and drive of his to respect public property” even at the public outcry of victims of such unheard of brutality – this is the week of Parshas Sedom – then his actions call for our outcry. Every rule has its limitations and may under certain circumstances be broken. If he can’t, then clearly he could in his inner heart have done the same as Hamas or at least even handed out sweets to celebrate. He is a bad individual. Sadly far too many around. Note: yesterday, טו חשון, was the 85th anniversary of Kristalnacht. I see a congruence.

Maybe yeshivas who temporarily relocated to Nyack during Covid should all move in together for a couple days next to this biggot’s personal residence.

In some places, like NYC, it is illegal to put up posters on public lamp posts and the like, and people can be fined for doing so. In such cases, the posters may be removed by anyone.

Of course, if the person objects to them because he is opposed to posters in general on public property, he should act against them generally, not just against one type thereof.
