JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: The IDF announced Sunday the passing of Rabbi Naaran Ashchar, a 32-year-old teacher at the Shadmot Mechola yeshiva in the Jordan Valley. Rabbi Ashchar was critically injured in an accident near the Lebanon border last week when a tank flipped over. In the accident another soldier, Yinon Fleischmann, was also killed.

Rabbi Ashchar had donated a kidney in the summer and was technically unfit for combat duty. Nevertheless he volunteered and asked to be assigned to a unit and was placed in the tank unit on the Lebanese border.

Rabbi Ashchar is survived by a wife and two young children. After his death his organs were donated to other people who require them to survive.

The IDF also announced that another soldier, Sgt. Yehonatan Maimon, a member of the Nahal Brigade’s Special Forces Unit, had fallen in battle in northern Gaza. Maimon, a 20-year-old resident of Ofakim, is the 30th casualty since the ground offensive began in Gaza a week ago.

May their memory be blessed and may Hashem avenge their blood.

Two other officers were seriously injured during the fighting Saturday night. Their families were notified.

The public is asked to devote special Tefillos during the night hours in Israel, 4-10 PM in the US, as the deputy commander of Givati says this is the most dangerous time for the soldiers and he specifically requested the protection of Tefillos of Am Yisrael.
