IDF Announces Names Of 5 Reserve Soldiers Killed In Gaza Fighting

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: The IDF released for publication the names of five more soldiers killed in the fighting in the Gaza strip. Four of the soldiers were from the reserve engineering unit and they were all killed in an explosion in an underground tunnel which they had uncovered inside a building. Two other soldiers were seriously injured in the incident.

Major (Res.) Moshe Yedidia Leiter, aged 39, a father of six from Ein Tzurim, served in battalion 697. Leiter is the son of Yechiel Leiter, a former advisor to prime minister Netanyahu and an immigrant from the US who resides in the town of Eli. He was studying medicine.

Sergeant-Major (Res.) Yosef Chaim Hershkowitz, the principal of the Pelech boys school in Jerusalem, was a 44-year-old father of five from Jerusalem. At the outset of the war, Hershkowitz sent a clip to his students, stating that “I miss you all and hope to see you soon. The situation isn’t simple but the good will prevail. I see Please G-d in a year’s time that the state of Israel will grow and flourish, hundreds of communities will be established, that’s the answer. Be strong and Please G-d we’ll meet soon after the great victory and salvation.”
