JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Saudi media outlet Asharq news claims based on Hamas sources that the terrorist organization had intended to coordinate a “comprehensive ground invasion” of Israel from north and south, but Hezbollah had backed down after being surprised by the Hamas infiltration on October 7th.

According to the report, the two terrorist organizations had concluded after the Guardian of the Walls campaign in 2021, in which Israeli Arabs actively opposed the government’s responses to Hamas attacks and attacked Jewish targets, that there were “gaps in Israeli security.” The terrorists believed that they could coordinate incursions into Israel from north and south under heavy rocket barrages and then force Israel to withdraw from Judea and Samaria, as well as from Eastern Jerusalem.

Hamas was supposed to infiltrate from the south, with Hezbollah entering the Galilee from the north and Iranian-backed militia entering from Syria, after Hezbollah attacked key Israeli sites such as electricity and water installations and airports with targeted missiles.

Despite the coordinated plan, Hezbollah were surprised by the Oct. 7th attacks and when it perceived US military support for Israel, the Lebanese-based terrorist organization preferred to withdraw rather than be targeted for destruction. Hezbollah limited its participation to symbolic attacks on northern communities.

Hezbollah was apparently concerned by the fact that the US sent an aircraft carrier and other destroyers to the region and preferred to protect itself from suffering extensive damage, limiting its participation to sporadic attacks on Israel.

Despite this, an intelligence assessment made after the two Hezbollah attacks on Israel Sunday, one on Har Dov involving four armed terrorists who were eliminated inside Israeli territory and the other leading to the death of two Israeli civilians from an anti-tank missile, stressed that Hezbollah is not afraid of instigating a war with Israel at this juncture, with numerous Israeli forces still deployed in battle in Gaza.

Sure. They were only planning to force Israel to relinquish the Yesha and Gaza. Like Gaza wasn’t relinquished 20 years ago. This was just another dry run practicing for another full out war like 1948 or any of the ones that followed.

I could have written this headline a year ago. This is not news.
