After longtime Brooklyn Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein announced that she will retire after this year, Councilman Yeger declared that he is seeking her Assembly seat.
Weinstein, a Democrat who represents District 41, said in a statement:“I want to thank all of my constituents throughout the years for placing their confidence in me. I also wish to thank all of my current and past staff members both in Albany and Brooklyn who have assisted me and our community throughout my years in office.”
Weinstein was first elected in the district — which comprises parts of East Flatbush, Sheepshead Bay, Flatlands, Midwood, and Canarsie — in 1980. The Democrat chairs the Assembly’s Committee on Ways and Means, and is a member of the Committee on Rules, the Task Force on Women’s Issues, and the Legislative Women’s Caucus.
In a statement quoted in Hamodia, Yeger, a conservative Democrat who has been a phenomenal representative for the frum community during tough times, said, “Public service is the honor of a lifetime, and I have devoted my life to serving our community, as a council member and community board member for 18 years before that. The 41st Assembly District is a special community, my lifelong home. With Senator Simcha Felder and Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein already leading the fight for our community in Albany, I look forward to the opportunity to join them and to make the case to my neighbors for the opportunity to represent all of us in Albany.”
Another worthless democrat that throws a bone to Brooklyn frummies. But serves his master well
What has he said or done about the invasion of illegals and the lunatic sanctuary policy? Honest question. I know nothing about him, but “conservative Democrat” is often a weasel-word description.
What has he done in his district (e.g. to keep streets clean), get rid of graffiti, etc.? Quality of life has deteriorated a lot during his term.
Who will the machers replace him with and coronate at the vacated City Council seat?
I know our community leaders support him so I will support him 100%. I do not know who Caller is.
