Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has a long and distinguished record of strongly supporting the security and welfare of the State of Israel and its citizens. Understanding the millennia-old plight and oppression of the Jewish people, his love and devotion toward Israel are intense and deeply personal. He feels the existential threat that Israel faces and the hate and viciousness that surround her. The pain of Israel, as experienced before and after October 7, is his own. And Israel’s desire for peace, too, is his own. Anyone who knows Senator Schumer, and who reads the words of his major address on Middle East peace, knows this to be true.
We are saddened, though, that important aspects of Senator Schumer’s address crossed a line. Indeed, it was the wrong message at the wrong time.
Putting aside the various policy pronouncements and analyses included in his statement, we are deeply concerned that the Senator directly intervened in the internal affairs of a sovereign foreign nation, a robust democracy, and a staunch American ally, by explicitly calling for new Israeli elections and more than intimating what he believes the outcome of those elections should be.
He further asserted that, if there are no new elections in Israel or if new elections in Israel do not result in an outcome that accords with his preferred policy perspectives, then the United States “will have no choice” but to leverage its aid to Israel in a manner that will exert pressure on Israel to divert its actions from what it deems to be in the nation’s best interests and the elected will of the people.
These intrusive assertions by Senator Schumer would be inappropriate, offensive, and counterproductive at any time. But leveling accusations and criticisms against a steadfast friend during a time of war will only further endanger Israel’s soldiers while they are fighting and dying in pursuit of eradicating the scourge of terrorism.
As the U.S.’s highest-ranking Jewish elected official ever, Senator Schumer has surely reached a pinnacle in American politics. But assuming the role of speaking on behalf of “a silent majority” of American Jewry goes too far. He has no such authority or power. If anything, his historic role and high station in our nation confer upon him the responsibility to carefully heed his words and use them wisely.
He was never a friend of Israel. He was always a friend of himself.
Israel had elections 14 months ago !!!
Not strong enough, milquetoast , hockerei.
Agudah ! Biden is slow walking ammunition to Israel and Chuck knows this. This is a critical moment and you throw this soft toss ? It’s pikuach nefesh for Jews in Eretz Yisrael and this is the best you can do ?
Wow. Not sure who is worse Agudah’s nauseating chanifah or Schumer
Just wonder if chuck ore approved yhrir statement. Heard better condemnations in talk radio from non Jews
Chuck the Shmuck!!!
CJV, Coalition for Jewish Values representing over 2000 rabbis has strongly condemned Chuck. I’m researching this organization, like what I read, and maybe it’s time for Agudah to retire.
A waste of paper!
The statement by Agudah was pretty good other than the first paragraph. Now is not a time to talk about his past support for Israel, because Thursday’s speech proves it was for power, not that he cared. However, the biggest statement Agudah can make to Schumer is to tell him he is no longer a wanted guest at any Agudah function, until he publicly, on the senate floor (not on x) retracts his statements about Bibi, retracts his interference in foreign elections of a sovereign nation and rejects the democrats stance on Israel.
So sickening, that in light of the m’nuvel, Schumer’s horrifying stance, we have to be subjected the the groveling chanifah from the Agudah as well. They are not much better than Schumer. Corrupt, self-serving and contemptable. You can keep the Agudah, and their arrogant, false , uber-wealthy base of support and leadership . Phoi!!!!
Shame on you, Aguda!!
To all those who commented that this is the professional way Agudah as an organization to have connections to Washington and the elites and the politicians so they can serve klall yisrael, please tell me two examples of what they have done for us in the last 20 years, Besides losing some court cases.
They’ve ceased a long time ago to accomplish anything or be a voice for us it’s just an organization raking in millions, having nice office in Manhattan without delivering anything substantially forthe klall.
Oh I forgot yes they are doing one thing, the “siyum hashas”, yay, oh but no thanks that was good for the last 50 years but fortunately enough we have now “dirshu”, that actually knows how to do things, so now there’s literally nothing left for Agudah.
I’m not always a fan of what Aguda says or does, but I believe that this letter was well written, powerful where needed, and to the point.
I disagree with the mockery and disdain for the Agudah by so many on here. (With regards to this story specifically). That’s how a professional organization whose mission it is to have close ties with and have a good working relationship powerful politicians in Washington DC and other levels of government for the benefit of the klal. What was said in that first paragraph is/was overall correct. What would you expect the Aguda to do? Cuss him out? Burn bridges?? Yeah, real smart. Doesn’t work that way. THAT BEING SAID, for me and you to say that Chucky Schumer is a trash human being on so many different levels, in so many instances is perfectly legit. He finally needs to be voted out of office, together with his colleague, Gerald geriatric Nadler.
I don’t see anything wrong with Agudah’s statement.

Not much different than Charedi attacks on Zionist Israel, the Draft, or non-Charedi Jews everywhere.
He made comments against Bibi, not against Israel. They are not the same thing. Not even close.
