An initial investigation revealed that the terrorist shot from the side of the road at buses and private cars. A young woman in her 20’s was very seriously injured and is in life-threatening condition. A 40-year-old man driving in a car was moderately injured.

The bus carrying the woman continued travelling to Karnei Shomron where she was treated by medics and transferred to Beilinson hospital, where she was described in very serious condition. The man continued driving his car until the Eliyahu checkpoint where he was given initial treatment and transferred to hospital.

IDF forces in the region are pursuing the terrorist. The road has been closed to traffic.

Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan responded to the attack, stating that “an attack on a central road in Israel is not something that should be happening. We are constantly warning and shouting that the checkpoints must be closed. We can’t rely on miracles, we can’t continue time after time to accompany injured people to hospital, it’s not normal. We expect the government, prime minister, defense minister and chief of staff to immediately order the closing of all of the checkpoints (to Arab traffic).”
