The child was reported missing by his family and was later found trapped in a parked car near his home. MDA medics arrived at the location and treated the child on scene.
MDA paramedic Yoel Kahan said that “We reached the scene and saw in a private care an unconscious child of about 3, suffering from heat stroke. We took him out of the car and transferred him to a mobile intensive care unit in critical condition and he was rushed to the hospital.
According to the Beterem organization this is the first case this year of a child dying due to being trapped inside a vehicle. In the last ten years 42 children have died in Israel as a result of being forgotten or being trapped inside a vehicle.
Orli Zilbinger, director of Beterem, said that “Young children are curious and can reach unexpected places. They can enter a parked car but don’t have the ability to exit independently. I call on parents: Don’t say it won’t happen to me. At the end of every trip you must ensure that the car is locked, and the keys must be kept far away from children’s reach.”
