JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Conservative opinion columnist Bret Stephens wrote in the New York Times that Benjamin Netanyahu “must go” in order for Israel to reach its objectives in the war.

The former editor of the Jerusalem Post has been critical of Netanyahu’s handling of the war, even as he praised him in the past for his economic and diplomatic achievements. Yet although previously he had said that Netanyahu has no choice but to continue the war until Hamas is destroyed, Stephens now feels that Netanyahu is a liability for Israel’s goals to be realized.
“Israel must destroy Hamas as a military and political force in the territory while minimizing harm to civilians. It must do what it can to rescue its hostages without jeopardizing the overriding goal of destroying Hamas,” Stephens wrote, adding, “And for all of that to happen effectively, Benjamin Netanyahu must go.”
Referencing Netanyahu’s slide in polls, Stephens said “it’s dangerous” for Netanyahu, whom “the people neither support nor trust,” to lead Israel.
“Wishing Netanyahu gone is the most mainstream position possible — and one sincere friends of Israel should never be afraid to express,” Stephens added.
New York times and conservative writer, what an oxymoron!
What they need to do there is realize the whole world hates them anyway, just go in and carpet bomb the whole Gaza back to the first century of Adam HaRishon and be done with them finally.
I do not seem to understand , what is going on , Raffah military operation was pendent on Hamas hostages cease fire DEAL , however NOTHING has come out of CAIRO negotiations , [ the obvious reason : the hostages are dead ] then how comes : RAFFAH is still standing ?
So Stephens says it and it’s ok, but for Schumer it’s not? What about staying out of Israel’s politics? “Slide in polls”? These are very fluid conversations. 7 months ago, the ever shrinking left-wing consensus would’ve opposed most of what they tout today.
The Left doesn’t have a position, so they don’t have a candidate. The Right has an ever growing alliance, only the only candidate that can put together a coalition is the one the Left wants out. If Likud voted Bibi out (primaries aren’t open like they are in America, only party insiders vote on the leader) maybe you’d have someone else on the right build a coalition, but they seem to believe their best chance at staying in power is to keep Bibi at the helm (and polls support that). But just talking out loud her, I wonder if Bibi was ousted, if the Left would then be satisfied? Fat Chance!
He doesn’t explain why , nor how else the war should be executed. He’s probably an anti reform guy and a Trump hater too.
I would venture to say that Israel would be better off if this draft dodger would stick his nose out of areas that he doesn’t know anything about.
For some reasons the left are never called liberals in their title.
I suppose at this point no one else can really bend the knee to America harder than Netanyahu has been. So I’ll agree.
He’s about as conservative as my backside.. the jp hasn’t been conservative since the 80’s and the NYT is trying to save itself from just being the cage liner for your pet birds what the birds put on the paper is worth more then what’s in the paper..
I used to be a Bibi fan, but 6 months and Hamas is still strong, and the tunnels still there, time for some one who can do the job.
