BRONX, NY (VINnews)— A vehicle exploded in The Bronx, injuring at least 5 firefighters as emergency crews battled the ensuing blaze and secured the area, officials said.

The cause of the blast remained under investigation Wednesday. Witnesses described a massive explosion that rattled nearby buildings and sent flames high into the night sky.
“It was like a movie scene — except it was real life,” said one local resident who saw the incident.
Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, where they worked to extinguish the fire amid debris and heavy smoke. The New York Fire Department confirmed several of its members were hurt but did not release details on the extent of their injuries.
No civilian casualties were reported.
