WASHINGTON – The Trump administration will require millions of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to recertify their information, part of a broader effort to overhaul the food aid program, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins told Newsmax Thursday.

On Rob Schmitt Tonight, Rollins said she plans to “have everyone reapply for their benefits, make sure that everyone … is literally vulnerable and can’t survive without it.” She cited data from 29 red states showing 186,000 deceased individuals were still receiving SNAP payments and noted cases of recipients collecting benefits in multiple states.
Rollins said the administration has arrested roughly 120 people committing SNAP fraud and called the effort a priority under President Trump, aiming to “fundamentally rebuild this program.” It is not clear when or how the reapplication process will be rolled out, or whether it has received final approval to proceed.

There he a subtle but vital point that people miss with snap. K first noticed it during the shutdown . NPR had a segment where they discussed how grocery store owners were “affected” . Less food was being purchased and they had to lower prices due to supply and demand. In simple terms food stamps affect us middle income earners Bec it increases demand and causes prices to rise. At a time where the price of food is such a huge issue here in the USA we need to address this
It is a good start to verify who is utilizing these S N A P dollars and to eliminate fraud !
SNAP programs are not only rife with fraud, but they over generously provide food for recipients that they ultimately spend more than higher income homes on food purchases. Many of them use the money to purchase unhealthy and overpriced processed food and snacks. Even more of them choose to stay unemployed because what they will make in employment is less than they make in accumulated benefits. That should never be the case. Benefits should not exceed minimum wage income. So not only I believe people should not be eligible for snap if they are healthy and working age except maybe for short periods. (Like between jobs etc)
