NEW YORK — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is calling on supporters to help raise $4 million to fund his transition into City Hall, saying he is deliberately avoiding reliance on “wealthy donors.”

Mamdani announced Sunday that his transition team had already collected more than $1 million over two weeks, with 12,707 contributors giving an average of $77.65.

In a video posted Tuesday, he said the funds are needed to vet staff, pay transition employees, plan the inauguration, and finalize his agenda “so January 1st can be the day we start to deliver, not start to prepare.”

“I hope very soon not to have to ask you for money, but until then, I’m asking,” Mamdani told supporters.

    Let the fun begin

This should get interesting. Votes cost nothing, now you’re asking us for money.
