According to details provided to WSVN by police sources, the teacher had just parked along 77th Street on Tuesday, a short walk from Lehrman Community Day School, when a man suddenly confronted her. The attacker allegedly spat at her, hurled an antisemitic slur, and struck her on the side of the head.
The man then grabbed her phone and smashed it repeatedly on the pavement, shattering it, before fleeing, sources told the station.
The victim ran toward the school, where a colleague contacted police. Officers responded quickly, searching the neighborhood with support from park rangers, undercover units, and a drone operator. Despite the large-scale effort, the suspect was not found.
Detectives met with the teacher afterward. She told them she had been wearing a Star of David necklace during the incident, according to WSVN.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
