JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel’s newly appointed Military Advocate General, Maj. Gen. Itai Ofir, made his first visit to the Gaza Strip, accompanied by the head of the IDF Southern Command and other senior officers, the army announced.

Ofir, who assumed the post last month following the resignation of Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, said it was critical for him to see the battlefield conditions firsthand at the start of his tenure.
“It was important to me, immediately upon beginning my role, to closely observe the complex reality and challenges facing IDF troops and their commanders on the southern combat front,” Ofir said in a statement released by the IDF Spokesman’s Office.
“A central part of the role of the military advocate general is to create solutions in accordance with the law to help the IDF meet its missions and win the war,” he added.
Prior to his appointment, Ofir served as the Defense Ministry’s legal advisor from 2017 to 2024. Earlier in his military career, he was an infantry officer.
