JERUSALEM (VINnews) — During the course of Wednesday night, two attempts were made to arrest draft-evading yeshiva students, in Herzliya and in Ramat Hasharon. In both cases, the arrests were prevented following mass gatherings of yeshiva students and avreichim at the scene.

The first incident occurred on Lohamei HaGhetaot Street in Herzliya. Jerusalem Faction aid organizations activated a “Black Alert” following an attempt to arrest a student of the “Imrei Moshe” yeshiva, identified as D.G., a Sephardi yeshiva student. Dozens of yeshiva students and avreichim were summoned to the scene, quickly gathered, and prevented the arrest from being carried out.

After a prolonged interval, the military police left the area without making an arrest.

Later that night, another arrest attempt was reported, this time in Ramat Hasharon on HaPorzim Street. There as well, dozens of yeshiva students and avreichim arrived in response to the call, and after they had gathered outside the military police left the scene. In this case too, the arrest was prevented.

On Tuesday, the military police succeeded in arresting yeshiva student Yitzhak Revivo outside his home in Ramat Gan. The organization “Notnim Gav” (“Providing Backup”) announced that it is accompanying the detainee and his family and providing legal assistance through attorneys.

An IDF spokesperson stated: “As part of the IDF’s routine enforcement activity against draft evaders and draft dodgers, military police operations were carried out last night across the country in coordination with the Israel Police. During the night, several draft evaders and draft dodgers were arrested nationwide. The arrests were carried out without disturbance at all relevant arrest locations. The demonstration in question began after the military police had left, and contrary to what was claimed, did not affect their activity.”

A military source added: “Not every arrest operation ends with an arrest, in accordance with professional and operational considerations.”

The reservists are getting worn out. The Chareidim don’t want to fight, they’re too comfortable where they are. We need a country like Turkey or Egypt to take over, defend and run the country.
