Brooklyn, NY – Those hanging posters on lampposts along Avenues J and M and Ocean Parkway had better mend their ways.

Lt. Lillian Tirado, from the city’s Department of Sanitation (DOS) enforcement division, heard an earful at the recent Community Board 14 environmental committee meeting.
“She [Tirado] was there as a result of complaints we were having – particularly on Avenues J and M for posters placed up on lampposts on Thursdays for religious events. They put up hundreds of them,” said CB 14 District Manager Doris Ortiz.
Tirado explained that the posters – even if advertising a religious or non-profit entity — are illegal. Even politicians are fined for putting them up during election season, she said.
These advertisements are not allowed on any city or public property and DOS enforcement agents go throughout the city and take them down, she said. [Courier-Life]
The city should request assitance from its citizens in asking EVERYONE who sees these posters on any city property to tear them down and throw them away. If the general public at large were to do this for a month, the people who post these flyers would stop wasting their time and money chasing their tails to just hang somethingthat will be torn down 15 minutes later.
I dont see anything wrong with posters on teh street, as long as they are not hanging on my walls.
Get a life!
How the DOS enforces their “Garbage Gestapo” agents not giving flase summonses, blocking the streets during rush hour unnecessarily, and just randomly neglecting to take people’s garbage? Then we’ll go after the poster hangers. . .
Get the DOS to do undercover work on dog owners who allow their dogs to S #$%^&&* on homeowners’ property.
THat is more disgusting to the eye and otherwise than hanging posters on a lamp post, for crying out loud.
These posters in Boro park are affecting quality of life. You step out of your house and you’re blinsided and pummeled with these big posters all over the place. Enough already. Get rid of them.
the problem is not the posters – the problem is the mess it makes after it’s purpose is served. Violators should be made to CLEAN UP their mess and that of others to teach them a lesson. The sign posting companies make enough money to cover the fines if caught and the sponsors/companies are rarely apprehended.
boro park has gone out of controll with these posters. Enough is enough. tell them to enforce it here toooooooooooooo
let them enforce it in boro park too, this place is flooded with them.
7:42 Placing flyers on car windshields has been illegal for several years and I’ve seen a real reduction in the flyers since the law was enacted. Call 311 to report anyone leaving flyers on your car.
The first step of getting rid of illegal posters is to have politicians stop posting them before Election day.
WAY TO GO DORIS!!! You are the best CB14 ever had!!! get ‘er going girl!!!
get simcha felder to sign that into law,,,,
he just finished with the advertisements,, I am sure now he is bored!
Bout time some one is doing something about this. Bout time is all i can say. They should also make it illegal to put it on windshields of cars.Cars are private property and playing with my wipers is tresspassing.
