As reported by Israel Hayom (http://bit.ly/1adBixJ) Israeli police intend to absorb a total of 2,200 as they have a limited number of units operating on Shabbat and also because female officers and haredim cannot be assigned to the same squad car.
Four hundred thirty-eight haredim were eliminated from the program and drafted into the IDF due to not fulfilling their duties, according to Jerby.
Of the total in national service, 55 percent volunteer in public service, 30% work in the haredi sector and 15% work in organizations that provide services to the overall population.
Yeshiva students who receive exemption from military service cannot be accepted for national services said Jerby. Alex Perlman, Israel Police Commander stated that haredi volunteers were successfully incorporated in traffic department units.
See it’s not so hard being normal.
it’s a start, albeit 65 years overdue.
