According to the Jewish Chronicle Online (http://bit.ly/1bbakum) Mirvis said sensitivity regarding the issue of domestic violence makes it challenging for charities such as Jewish Women’s Aid to support victims of abuse in Jewish homes.
The Jewish Women’s Aid was among groups that took booths at the Jewish Women’s Aid awareness event at Brent Cross Shopping Centre on Monday. A number of shoppers talked about their personal connections with those who had suffered abuse.
“It is fantastic that the Chief Rabbi is showing his solidarity with JWA and abused women on this important day,” stated Jewish Women’s Aid director Emma Bell.
While I am happy that this rabbi is vocal about domestic violence, I also believe that he and other rabbanim should encourage divorce to women who are victimized. Women have to understand that domestic violence is intolerable and more organizations have to be formed to help women and their children.
