Police told VIN News that the incident took place at the corner of 6th Avenue and West 16th Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan at 11:15 AM.
The victim had just exited the subway and was headed northbound on Avenue of the Americas when he passed his attacker who turned back and punched the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground and dislodging his hat and his yarmulka. The suspect, who is described as a 5’9 black man with dreadlocks, assumed a fighting stance and said to his victim “Let’s go,” before fleeing the scene.
Police said that no other words were exchanged between the two men and that an investigation is currently underway. The assault is still unclassified pending further findings from the Hate Crimes Unit. The victim, who sustained redness to the injury area as well a small bump on his forehead, refused medical attention.
Anyone with any information regarding the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS
This seems to be going a bit too far. Now “let’s go” makes something a bias crime? Maybe what’s going on is that someone in the NYPD feels a need to suck up to the Jewish community, and thinks that behaving like this will make us feel tight (or tighter) with the NYPD.
This doesn’t matter at all. Obama and the UN are only troubled by violence against muslims.
He should wear a baseball cap, not a black hat. The latter makes for easy identification as a Haredi Jew. Would he wear a black hat in Paris or even in a small American town?
Maybe the guy was mentally unstable or high on drugs. People intent on hate usually have better ways to express it or say nothing at ll ‘Lets go’ sounds more like the start of a boxing match than a hate crime unless they guy was very very high or drunk or both in which case it could be anything really.
