In a letter circulating on social media, the parents inform their neighborhood that this past shabbos edible candy marijuana somehow made it into their home. The children thought it was regular candy, and ate it thinking it was Shabbos party.
According to the parents, they were not initially certain their children would survive.
“We are beyond grateful to Hakadosh Baruch Hu that our girls are home asleep in their beds tonight, as last night it was not clear that would be the case,” the letter states.
“The effects were horrific. They ended up in the emergency room. Some unresponsive for hours. And even after regaining consciousness they are not themselves yet. These are little children that had 4 times the amount adults should have.”
This is particularly alarming, since the candy looks and tastes like regular candy and is virtually indistinguishable to children who pick it up.
“This can happen to anyone,” the letter continues. “It is legal and easily accessible nowadays. If you or anyone you know possesses it, be sure to carefully mark it (My husband and myself did not know what it was) and keep it far away from children. In addition it is important for everyone to be aware that this is a problem and to be vigilant with your children. I hope that this can save anyone from the heartache we felt and the repercussions we are dealing with now.”
Wow. What a rush to judgement. These 3 tiny preschoolers had so much marijuana and were so messed up that the parents called the fire Dept on shabbos fearing there was carbon monoxide in their home. They had no idea someone had brought a box of edibles and left it at their house at a kiddush earlier. They only found the box way later after lab work in the hospitals finally explained what was wrong with their kids and they searched their house and found it. They realized their kids were poisoned with something and did indeed fear for their lives because they didn’t know what it this substance was! Only that their kids took a sudden and terrifying turn….
Why edibles aren’t regulated are beyond me. They should be in tamper proof containers like Tylenol so these horrible stories don’t happen! These edibles look like gummies and brownies – it’s a magnet for little kids!!!! Parents beware.
I personally know the people in this story and everyone should be aware that someone from outside their home brought it into their house without their knowledge and accidentally left it there. These parents are incredibly responsible and would never have this in their home. The hospital was extremely worried and I believe one of the children was unconscious. Because marijuana is a sedative and given the fact that these young children had four times more than an adult dose, the hospital was worried that that their hearts could stop.
realize these products are highly unregulated. who knows what other junk they include to keep you buying. not negating the benefits of medical marijuana to those who truly need it, but don’t kid yourself, even unadulterated edibles are potent and young children consuming a high dose can have some awful effects. hearts go out to the entire family. whoever it was that left these there used some very poor judgement.
“this past shabbos edible candy marijuana SOMEHOW made it into their home”…. What a laugh!!!! There has been an upsurge in marijuana usage in Frum homes over the past 5 years or so. I have been to several kiddush clubs where the guys winked at a certain tray of brownies. I have been in homes where the shabbat ritual starts with a gummy before shul. This is not an isolated thing. Frumers find vegan/vegetarian sources and use them regularly. It was just a matter of time until something like this happened.
Nope. Fake news!
Fake news. Edibles are not legal without card in NYS. So this is a lie
Was there a hechsher? If there wasn’t a hechsher and they have treife products floating around their home, then the family has much worse problems. If there was a hechsher, what unscrupulous agency would give a hechsher to such a product?
Story sounds fishy.i think the parents should hide the edibles better in a place where there kids can’t find there stash
This is misinforming. yes it’s very scary but there has never been a marijuana overdose in anyone of any age. Should be warning people to be careful but should not be saying its deadly. There are alot of people in the community who rely on edibles as medicine because they cannot smoke and saying it can kill children when that is false is a recipe for disaster.
You can’t die from weed overdose
Nobody has ever “overdosed” on marijuana.
