Those residents who need cash for immediate assistance can go to the Barnegat location. Proof of need – such as a photograph of a damaged house – is required.
The New Jersey National Guard’s Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth said Air Force lawyers were ready Wednesday to cut $25,000 checks to those who had lost their homes. As of Wednesday night, authorities estimated five homes had been destroyed and 18 heavily damaged in the fire, which has covered almost 20 square miles and caused 6,000 people to be evacuated.
