On Sunday February 11th noxious fumes reported inside the mall on the second floor prompted the evacuation. Approximately 35 people sought medical care with numerous people complaining of respiratory problems including coughing, watering eyes and runny noses.
The symptoms NorthTown shoppers complained about mimic what happens to people when they inhale mace or pepper spray.
During the Spokane Police Department’s investigation into the incident detectives on March 1st identified a person of interest while studying surveillance video footage. In the moments leading up to the evacuation a person is seen with something in his hands in an isolated area of the mall.[kxly]
