New York, NY – The city has stepped up security at Pakistani sites after the assassination of Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto during a campaign rally in her homeland.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday that police presence was being increased at sites including the Pakistani consulate on East 65th Street, the residences of the ambassador to the United Nations and the consulate general’s residence.
Security also will be increased around the offices of Pakistani airlines and several Pakistani banks, Bloomberg said. [AP]
