The Port Authority, which owns six bridges and tunnels that link the two states, wants to raise rush-hour tolls on the crossings from $6 to $8. Fares on PATH commuter trains would increase from $1.50 to $2.

More than 120 million drivers cross Port Authority bridges and tunnels each year, and about 227,000 passengers take the PATH trains every day.
If approved, the increases would take effect in March. [AP]

NYC real estate taxes are lower because of all the businesses there.

NYC wants businesses to come to the city because of that. When employees don’t want to travel to NYC because it keeps getting more expensive, eventually the employers move the office out of NYC to make it easier to get good employees.

Thats when the city starts to offer more incentives to companies to move to NYC. When will the city realize that if they made it easer for people to come to NYC, maybe more companies will move to the city?

Will they keep the car-pool discount to encourage people to share rides? Or will that be a thing of the past?

PLEASE EXPLAIN how NYC residents are subsidized by suburban-Real estate taxes are all collected for the local municipality, it is not State nor Federal. I never heard of a suburb giving money to NYC as a gift.
It might be accurate to say that NYC has low property taxes and makes up for it by
    1, local sales tax,
2, taxes on tourists (sales tax and hotel tax)
3, Being a larger city it might operate more eficiently than every small town doing everything itself.
4, being not in N.J. there might be more spent honestly.

As a New Yorker I can say it is good. I am willing to say that most travel is jersey commuters traveling daily to work in New york. These people are getting a free ride, new York gets no taxes but provides a city with security, police and fire department for all these day commuters. At least some revenue goes to new York state and if this upsets the commuters they could work elsewhere.
There used to be a commuter tax, it was knocked out by a adverse ruling.
yes, I realize the average New Yorker will be affected travelling to the mountains, it is not so much for occasional users
