While the scene wasn't exactly common for a public school, it happened, thanks to the outreach work of the local school district.

On Feb. 12, a blaze tore through the gym and synagogue of the Adolph Schreiber Hebrew Academy of Rockland, destroying part of the building and leaving a stench of smoke throughout it, as was reported at that time her on Vin News.

While the building is being cleaned, East Ramapo's administrators offered the Hebrew Academy space for all this week during February vacation.

"Any opportunity that we have to settle things, ease problems, ease pain, reach out, that's the most gratifying thing in life and we work very hard at that in East Ramapo," Schools Superintendent Mitchell Schwartz said.

So while the public school's students were enjoying their break, the Hebrew Academy's staff and 350 students found a temporary home. [JournalNews]

It’s great to see people working together like that, without regard for religious differences. Kol Hakavod to them.
