The Dash Express as its called, features both Wi-Fi and GPRS cellular capabilities for real-time connections with other Dash units, as well as with Dash servers and the Internet. It shares anonymous speed and location data with other units, which is combined with historical traffic data — much of it culled from road-testing the device for the past year. Dash units uses all this data to compute three different routes for a destination, and reroute accordingly as conditions change and new data becomes available, the company says.

Dash Express also receives traffic information from road sensors, commercial fleets, and other sources through its partnership with traffic data supplier Inrix. The Dash Driver Network provides coverage on nearly 2 million miles of U.S. roads, and offers the only source of traffic-flow data for arterial roads in addition to highways, the company claims. It also tracks approximately 10 times more road segments than any competitive products, the company said.

The Dash PND also uses its Internet connection for updated point-of-interest data, as well as updating its own software and maps automatically. Users can also send an address via the web or e-mail directly to their Dash device, the company said.

see below video that shows how ‘DASH’ works in real time.

FINALLY, I was waiting for this type of technology to come out. At this rate I wont be surprised if by the year 2020 our cars would have the capability to go auto pilot. I saw an article on technology that says they are already testing a car that avoids accidents. The way it works is that the car has censors on the front and if there is a stopped car in front of you and you do not slow down the breaks will automatically kick in even if your foot is on the gas. (the break system will override the fuel.) cool stuff is coming out for the future. cant wait
