The rabbi heard a large BOOM from the garage, where he kept some fifty gallons of gasoline for the generators.
"It's hard to watch everything you've earned, worked for, collected go up in smoke. There's things from my grandparents, things from the Holocaust, I can't replace in any way," the rabbi says.
But despite the home being a total loss, there was an amazing recovery.
Goldstein had two Torahs, in a bag in the trunk of his car.
The car was burned up in the fire, and the bag was soaked through with water. Amazingly the Torahs inside stayed dry.
To hear they might have been lost was devastating, and now to see that they are probably OK and can be restored, God was looking out on this one.
Investigators won't be able to get into the home until the morning to determine what caused the fire. [wptv]
