on the one hand it’s very commendble that this man was trying to help Israel with information that he thought they didn’t have and must be informed of. one the other hand, if you are working for the USA that’s where your alliance should be… not that one should ‘shrug’ off the state of Israel.. but if you work for the USA and are privy to classified info. it should be kept that way. he could of gone and worked for Israel and helped them from their side of the ‘fence’… be very patriotic, but on Israeli territory… I am sure he meant well.. let’s really daven that he is let off and not ‘punished’ for his ‘crime’ of helping Israel…
unfortunately, Israel really cannot get involved (see what help they were for J. Pollard)once the
info. becomes public… so why would anyone risk thier name and life … and besides, don’t we believe that only ONE is constantly watching and protecting us… so why take such a risk?

    Response to #6 and #7 :

Has Jewish blood stopped flowing in your veins?!?!

#6 , Pollard was Moser Nefesh to protect Jewish lives in E”Y, something the US had promised to do but was not doing. He is a Jewish hero and you should envy his portion in Olam Haba!!

#7 , how about allegiance to Israel because IT IS FILLED WITH YOUR JEWISH BROTHERS!!

    What have we come to?

For All those that so easily say that Pollard is guilty. There’s a man named John Loftus who used to be pretty deep into the secrets of our country. his website has some facts about Pollard story, read some of the things there. I think you’ll change your minds before you even get to read all of it.
Google his name, go to his site, read his bio and then an article called “the truth about jonathan Pollard”
You’re entitled to an opinion, but first get the facts straight!

    Loftus is fairly unconvincing, honestly.

We’re all in the dark here, but Loftus makes the nonsensical claim that information the US obtained from Russia would be useless to Russia. Sorry, but knowing what secrets of yours the other side has obtained is *incredibly* valuable.

Given that mistake in Loftus’ claims, I have difficulty taking the rest of his article seriously, especially since it boils down to a giant “argument from authority”.

does it occur to any jews organizations that we should apologize? this is a potentially great source of anger and very dangerouse. i think agudah would be the right organization for the apology .

” Did you even take a minute to wonder why they didn’t charge him till now ?”

That’s actually quite well known. The case was discovered last spring, when he was in contact with his former handler (who was also one of Pollard’s handlers).

Had he not lied to the FBI, there would have been no prosecution. The statute of limitations had expired. But he spoke with his Israeli handler, and then lied about that contact to the FBI. And that’s what left him in legal jeopardy.

If I had to guess, I would guess that US Intelligence agencies were paying extra attention to anyone related to Pollard because of the pressure being brought to release Pollard for Israel’s 60th Anniversary. There was one report (that I didn’t ever see corroborated, and it wasn’t from a major news source) that claimed that a source within the Israeli government notified the FBI.

One thing this does do (which certainly makes things harder for Pollard), is prove that Israel lied to the United States when it claimed that Pollard was the only agent in that operation, and it strengthens the suspicions of those in the American intelligence community that Israel still has one highly placed operative.

Ben – Ami really only has to worry about the verdict of one court. That court is not found in the Southern District of New York. In the Beit Din Shel Ma’alah he’ll be found innocent
