Bnei Brak, Israel – Rescue teams conducted searches through the forests near Haifa this evening in an attempt to locate 14-year-old Yakov Shikolvsky, from Bnei Barak who is missing when he went looking for water during a hike with his family of 15 in Nahal Sfunim.

According to reports, the family had split into two groups during the hike, and both groups thought that the boy was with the other.
Only when they arrived back at their cars did they realize that he was lost.
After the family alerted police, the search then began. Helicopters and police on horseback are also assisting in the search.
It was reported to VIN News, search command on the scene believes that the child’s life is in grave danger out there. The name of the Boy has been identified as Yakkov Shenklenovski

Missing boy Ya’akov “Yankel” Shenkelewsky was located in morning Israeli time 7:00 AM, after intensive search.
Authorities have found the 14-year-old after he went missing Tuesday afternoon following a hike with his family in the north.
As sundown was approaching Tuesday, police said the boy’s life was at greater risk the longer with every passing moment he is not found, but B”H he was found alive and well near Tiras HaCharmel, 6 km (3.728 miles) from where he went missing.

I have always recommended a buddy system on family and school outings. Each child is assigned a buddy, ie another child, and they stick together. Often, this can prevent one child from wandering away.
