Israel – Israel’s foot soldiers are getting new odour-free socks that can be worn for two weeks straight without smelling or stinking up the feet, the Maariv daily reported on Thursday.

“It may sound ridiculous… but this is a very important issue that causes many problems during training,” the newspaper quoted Brigadier General Nissim Peretz, the commander of the Israeli military’s logistics division, as saying.
The socks, which will be distributed to all new infantry recruits beginning in March, also prevent athlete’s foot — “a nuisance with which every soldier is very familiar,” the paper said.
The fabric includes metal components to keep bad odours and fungal infections at bay, it said.
Where were these socks when i was in the dormitory?
Now the soldiers who wear those tall red boots in the summer wont have smelly feet but they won’t have any incentive to wash them or take a bath!
I can smell those feet already!
Yuk!!!
Aside from enlisting in the IDF (for which I’d lose my job), how can I get these socks??
Where can I get these socks? My wife says it’s pikuach nefesh…
Great! Where can I buy them? Do they have white ones for shabbos?
something about this story doent smell right
could they make other clothing as well? like undershirts and undewear.
Yea this is a smely story!!
But kol hakavod!
well. i might reconsider enlisting. 😉
The scoks are made from a material called cupron. http://www.cupron.com. I have been wearing them form three years (not the same pair) and they everything they say they are. No smell.
Every yeshivish guy is going to get a pair then he can go coast to coast without worry!
You can get the same technology in some Timberland socks, they contain silver coated fibers that are naturally anti-microbal. It only lasts for about 50 wash cycles, but it really helps keep your feet healthy. Diabetics might ask their doctors if these are a good idea for them. Believe it or not, this foot problem was a major casualty factor during both world wars, Korea and Vietnam. At most outdoor shops like Eastern Mountain Sports, you can get entire clothing made with this fabric.
anyone out there know where to get these!!!!???
Reccomended for Tisa B’Av & Yom Kuppur
Reminds me of the French and the cologne…
when i was in the army, they encouraged us to take our socks off or double up when we would be in the field for long periods of time. these “odor free” socks are not necessary for soldiers because its trench foot we worry about not stinky foot. if soldiers are not forced to change their socks/ air out their feet while out in the field they will get trench foot and a myriad of other infections. at the end of field weeks what difference does it make if the soldier himself stinks but his socks don’t?
if all the yeshivas and camps start buying them, the company’s sock…err…stock will go through the roof!
And how many people died while testing all the socks till they got it right?
I am not buying these socks. This will take away the fun that I have with the TSA while checking myself in at the airports.
In Canada they’re sold at Marks Work Wearhouse
They deserve everything they can get that is the best!!!!!!!!!!! IDF you are the best, yashar koach!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my kids have been forgoing prizes and presents, and giving the money to the IDF. Everyone should do that!
We have bed sheets made with this technology. It it supposed to stay cooler int he summer and warmer iun the winter. I just think they are pretty with the silver flecks.
Sounds like the story in the Torah where we did not change our clothing for 40 years in the desert. Well, almost!!!
