Boisbriand, Canada – A massive fire that broke out at 11 PM last night in Kiryas Tosh destroying eighteen apartments has left sixteen families homeless. All residents of 112-114 Place Andre Ouellet were evacuated safely but according to CTV Montreal news three firefighters were injured battling the blaze, whose cause is as yet unknown.

An estimated 125 children between the ages of one and ten are among those left homeless by last night’s fire. “They have nothing, everything is burnt down to the bottom,” said Rabbi Sholom Orgel, a secretary to the Tosher Rebbe.
While a committee has been formed in Tosh to arrange housing for all the displaced families, a group of Williamsburg askanim in conjunction with several stores, including Weisner’s Dry Goods Store, Casual Corner and Fixler’s Dress Shop are donating clothing which will be sent this afternoon with a group of Williamsburg residents who are traveling to Tosh for the Rebbe’s Rosh Chodesh Seudah.
Anyone wishing to donate money, clothing or dry goods in new or excellent condition can contact the help center set up in Tosh at 514-967-6922 or Rabbi Sholom Orgel at 514-969-7240.
How can we help the affected families? Is there a U.S. organization that accepts tax-deductible donations for the Tosher shtetl?
While the loss of the building is regrettable, they were very fortunate that no one was hurt. The structural loss is probably covered by fire insurance so hopefully everyone will be made whole. Donating some clothing from willy is still a nice gesture.
what is the cause of the fire?
Confirmed: there’s a family living in that complex who has 2 kallahs. One getting married in 4 weeks the other after y”t
Cause is electric
An intro into the nine days. B”H the damage was to bricks and stones. May He protect us from all harm for the duration and onwards…
B’H’ nobody was injured. I did read on another site that the residents would not cooperate with the Fire Department about answering questions. Also, most of the residents had no insurance, which is very irresponsible.
Mi keamcha yisrael! Its heartwarming to see all those efforts going into helping strangers
Having been the through the trauma of a house fire (electrical), I can confirm that there are motions which one goes through.
The first being that you are all B’H safe and it’s only mortar and bricks…..can be rebuilt…replaced….etc…
Once you overcome the initial shock, the reality of loosing ‘everything’ sets in.
You have nothing – just the clothes you were wearing (and each other, which is priceless!)
Even though we had insurance B’H, it took over a year and a half to settle the claim. There was so much to try and recall to be accounted for. It was like a full time job. we got there in the end.
I can truly feel their loss at this time and hope they are able to stay strong and count their blessings!
from the newspapers not sure why the fire fighters just risked their lives I think one should be more cooperative
“The evacuees refused the help of the Red Cross; instead they are coming to each others’ aid within the community. They offered little cooperation to firefighters, according to officials.”
why
