Sullivan County, NY – Approximately forty people were evacuated from a Private bungalow colony, located just below the former location of the Aladdin in Woodbourne at Hasbrouck Drive as runoff from the Neversink River flooded the area.

All eight bungalows on the property are partially submerged with approximately one to two feet of water entering the units, two of which were recently constructed.
“We had already shut off the electricity,” said 30 year old Shirley Hess of Brooklyn, a resident of the colony. “The water was coming up when the police, fire department and special evacuation team came in. We told them we were okay but they told us we had to get out now. All of a sudden the water starting coming in so fast. It was good we got out when we did.”
The twenty five children in the colony were taken out by raft or on the shoulders of the rescuers and everyone was evacuated safely to The Chalet, located just up the road on higher ground.
“The brook is usually knee deep,” said Hess. “We go rafting there in the summer. It normally rises a little in the rain, but never like this. There will be lots of loss here, not just the bungalows but many of the items inside including computers.”
Boruch HaShem, the children were all evacuated. HaShem sent special messengers, the police and fire-fighters. We bless them all.
