New York – A new English book by Artscroll’s Shaar Press division inspired by Nesivos Shalom, makes the popular mussar sefer more accessible than ever by presenting its timeless words in step by step, hands on manner to provide better understanding of our relationship with Hakadosh Baruch Hu as we go through day to day life.

GPS! Navigation for Your Soul is a 487 page book that offers both guidance and inspiration. It is based on Nesivos Shalom, a seven volume set written by the seventh Slonimer Rebbe, R’ Shalom Noach Berezovsky, zt’l. Once called “the Mesilas Yesharim of our generation” by Rav Shach, zt’l.

Nesivos Shalom discusses the philosophy of yiddishkeit, the unconditional love that Hakadosh Baruch Hu has for us and coping with the challenges that inevitably come our way.

GPS! was written by Brooklyn residents, Avi Fishoff and Yaakov Shain, who learned Nesivos Shalom b’chavrusa every day and felt that the themes discussed in the sefer were applicable to day to day life and were particularly appropriate for troubled teens.

“Many teens struggle with yiddishkeit,” said Fishoff who is the founder and director of Home Sweeeet Home, a residence for Jewish teens at risk. “We have found Nesivos Shalom to be a strong tool that they respond well to and the concepts in the sefer are equally important for all of us. But this is not just a book for teens. We all need chizuk and inspiration and Nesivos Shalom serves as a guide to increase the skills we need for coping with everyday life.”

The book is written in a lighthearted and engaging manner and incorporates some of what Fishoff calls “teenage shprach”, making for an easy read.

Sprinkled with quotes from numerous sources and anecdotes to illustrate the concepts discussed in each section, GPS! takes a step by step approach to demonstrating how Hakadosh Baruch Hu loves each and every one of us unconditionally even if we are not at the highest spiritual level. Key points are emphasized using different fonts and colors and the main points of each chapter are highlighted by a graphic bearing the words “authentic yiddishkeit” with a special section at the end of the book listing all those points for easy review. GPS! also explains how the challenges we sometimes face are actually beneficial to us and concludes with six basic concepts to help us attain higher spiritual levels and a closer bond with the Ribono Shel Olam.

“Not everyone can open up a mussar sefer and learn, but so many of us are desperate for those concepts,” Fishoff told VIN News. “We hope that this work will capture the invaluable lessons of the Nesivos Shalom and bring them to a whole host of people who would not otherwise be able to enjoy these inspiring words.

I thought Slonim is a Chassidic Dynasty and the Nesivos Shlom a sefer of Chassidus. Its not Mussar!!! many publsihers get their facts wrong. They replace names of Gedolim in stories and make things up to sound better. At least the Chabad are documenting stories on video with the actual people it happened with so as not to allow facts to get lost over time.

The Nesivos Sholom is a must read for every Jew in our generation. I learn that Sefer nearly every week and you can gain keen insights into the areas of Emuna, Bitachon, Simchas HaChaim, Yiras Hashem, etc. While I have not yet purchased the English Sefer, I strongly recommend learning the principles enunciated by the Hailege Slonimer Rebbe.

#2 – since when does a chassidic rebbe write ONLY sifrei chassidus. What utter, nonsense. A learned individual – a talmid chochom or rebbe or simple human for that matter can be capable of writing sifrei mussar (sometimes doing it to help themselves at the same time). Although slonim is a chassidus it’s vastly different to other ones. They don’t pomp their rebbe it’s more working on oneself with his guidance in a very subtle way.

nesivas shlom is a hashkofo sefer based on “certain” chasidus concepts ( not agreeable even to all slonimer teachings). As far as calling it a “Muuser sefer” or Measilas yesharim (R’ shach never said it) a far cry from someone who lived with machloikes for 50 years till he became Rebbe for himself…
