Eshkol – A second Israeli was declared dead after heavy mortar fire from the Gaza Strip targeted southern Israeli communities in Israel moments before a cease-fire came into effect at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

A mortar shell fired at the Eshkol Regional Council killed one person earlier today who Magen David Adom personel were unable to resuscitate on the scene. The mortars seriously wounded two others, MDA Spokesman Eli Bean said.
Eshkol Regional Council chairman Haim Yellin indicated on Tuesday that he does not trust the cease-fire will last, saying residents of his constituency who evacuated should not return to their homes.
“It doesn’t interest me what the government or Hamas say. I will only call on residents to return when I feel like there’s a real cease-fire,” Yellin told Channel 10 news.
A spokesman for the Eshkol Regional council said that 116 rockets and mortar shells were fired into the area from Gaza on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, a rocket slammed into a residential neighborhood in Ashkelon, causing damage to several homes.
