Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said Wednesday that homicide detectives had arrested 15 year old Deandre Charles in connection with the death of 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin.
Raksin was fatally shot Aug. 9, 2014, as he walked to a temple in Miami, where he had been visiting family. At the time, authorities said the slaying appeared to have been a robbery gone bad, but they had not ruled out a hate crime.
Additional details were not immediately available Wednesday. Capote said more information would be released at a news conference Wednesday afternoon at the State Attorney’s Office.
WSVN TV is reporting that teen, who was 14 at the time of the crime, went on a robbery spree throughout Northeast Miami-Dade and North Miami Beach when he ran into Rabbi Yosef Raksin. Raksin was walking to a Synagogue, on that Aug. 9, Saturday morning, not carrying any money. Charles, who is accused of shooting Raksin to death got away empty handed.
