NEW YORK (VINnews) — A Boro Park resident narrowly escaped serious injury after his private airplane caught fire while taxiing on the runway at a New Jersey airport.

The plane was about to take off from the airport at 3:25 PM when it caught fire. Linden Emergency Dispatch was notified of a plane on fire at the Linden Municipal Airport, 1101 W. Edgar Rd.
Fire and rescue workers located the single-engine aircraft engulfed in flames on the runway and quickly extinguished the fire. The only occupant of the plane, a 40-year-old chareidi resident of Boro Park, succeeded in fleeing from the plane before the emergency services arrived. He was transported to St. Barnabas Burn Center with burns to his arms and lower extremities.
The incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, New Jersey State Fire Marshall’s Office, Union County Arson Investigation Team, Union County Hazmat, and Linden Fire Department.
