Former Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Torrey Smith weighed in on the controversy surrounding Kanye West, tweeting to his 500,000+ followers that Jews have “power and influence” and therefore retaliated against Kanye.
“Kanye never got canceled for saying all of the wild things he said about black folks because there aren’t many black people in powerful positions,” Smith wrote Wednesday. “He literally offended a group of people that do have power and influence in every space. It’s not rocket science. Don’t be stupid.”
Now he has issued an apology of sorts, although some believe it was weak and disingenuous, and that he only did it in response to the massive backlash he received.
In response, Baltimore City Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer blasted Smith for engaging in antisemitic tropes.
“You have more followers on social media than there are Jews in the state of Maryland. Your statements fuel the flames of antisemitism,” Schleifer wrote.
Predictably, Smith initially denied that his statements were antisemitic and engaged in a lengthy “debate” with multiple Twitter users, including Schleifer.
Then by around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Smith “apologized”, at least officially.
“After talking to some of my friends and members of the Jewish community, I would like to apologize for the hurt that some people have experienced from my tweet. That was not my goal and I understand why people feel that way,” Smith tweeted.
Recognize that my point falls in line with an antisemitic trope. I know what that means for the Jewish community during this time. The thought of being a person that could influence someone to harm someone else is crazy. That’s not how I live or believe anyone should be treated.

In recent days several gigantic companies, including Adidas and the Gap, have cut ties with West over his antisemitic statements.
Can we stop caring about what every idiot says ?
This is just another diversion so the sheeple should forget that every hate crime that has been happening in Flatbush in recent weeks, have all been carried out by BLACKS! Every homeless bum that threw people onto the subway train tracks were BLACKS! So we don’t need any Kardashian boy-toy to prove anything.
This whole Kanye West fiasco is getting out of hand.
Those Jews who are bringing down financially this lunatic Kanye West are playing with fire. These Jews are proving to the Anti-Semites that Jews are indeed powerful and control the media and the markets.
Anti-Semites will stay hateful to Jews regardless. There always was and always will be Antisemetisim.
Who cares?
He didn’t get into as much trouble for what he said about black people because he’s black. If a white person called him out for his racism, people would say “wow, a white person is calling a black person racist, black people can’t be racist, why are you making it all about yourself.”
Adidas and many more outlets stopped supporting kanye not because his anti Semitimetic rants, just because he’s pro trump and there using us as an excuse! this brings great revenge for attacs on us this is how progrums started in history we become the excuse and they all turn towards us very sad! The media adidas and all of them hates us just as kanye does
It’s the power of unity against hate. Too bad, we need anti-semites to stir Jewiah feelings and unite us.
THIS IS NOT A JEWISH ISSUE, this is racism, violence and hatred and no society should accept this. Ye’s behavior unravels society and MUST be stopped in its tracks. Staying silent is NOT AN OPTION!!!
