JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In an interview with Israeli journalist Moav Vardi from Israel television’s Kan news channel, New York Times journalist Thomas Friedman explained why he believes that the judicial reforms being proposed could rock Israel-US relations.

Friedman said that Israel does not have a constitution like the US and this endangers the democratic fabric of the country if the political establishment will gain power over the judiciary. He also blasted prime minister Netanyahu for “interfering in American politics” after he spoke to Congress in 2015 and said that in comparison, President Biden’s remarks on the judicial reform were extremely well-balanced and reflected the views of Israeli president Herzog. Friedman added that “we give 3.3 billion dollars in aid to Israel, should we sit like good children and not say anything?”
The journalist asked why Israel had succeeded so well with the current system and then the prime minister, under indictment for various issues, decided to reduce the power of the courts.
He claimed that Israel’s image and support in the US has been eroded during Netanyahu’s era in power.

Moav Vardi interviews Thomas Friedman
This moron has been bashing Israel for 40 years. This moron has been wrong about everything for 40 years.
He is the eliza shapiro of israeli politics.
I’d love to understand how anyone gives this fool a podium to speak. He says the dumbest things, he’s never right about anything historically, and he has a true liberal ego-all fluff and no substance
Yet another armchair politician, securely ensconced here in the US, shooting off his ignorant mouth. Move to Israel, become a citizen, endure what the average citizen in Israel needs to endure, and vote!!
Israel’s courts have become an activist, judiciary, and that needs to be stopped immediately,
In the oft quoted words of one of your favorite politicians, “elections matter”, the people have spoken.
Say no more. If Tom Friedman is against something, I am for it.
It’s the failing nut and their fake news reports that cause us to erode mr nyt . Big talker. First tell your paper to stop the lies
Says a columnist for Israel bashing New York Times.
Is he saying a court based on American standards is anti democracy. Or is he more afraid that the court want act as a legislative body
2 words for you: who cares. What a fraud and phony
He doesn’t seem to worry too much about democracy in the Arab countries.
Usually, when there are already many comments on a post, I don’t bother to join the crowd, but this time I will. Everyone commenting has been bashing Friedman, and rightfully so, but no one has said anything substantive as to why he is obviously 1) wrong, 2) a diehard leftist, and 3) speaking utter nonsense.
The first paragraph of this article states that Friedman “explained” why US relations will go south due to this issue. But he never quite explains anything at all. He merely posits that if the political (ie elected) branch of the government controls the judiciary, it will “erode the fabric of democracy”. How is that true? Doesn’t the US elect control the judiciary in our constitutional country?
Then he “blasts” Netanyahu for a speech to US Congress 8 years ago. Huh? How is that relevant?
He does, however, accidentally tell us exactly where he is coming from, when he says:
“we give 3.3 billion dollars in aid to Israel, should we sit like good children and not say anything?”
In other words, the administration here is leftist, so if Israel wants our support, they better not do anything non-left! That says it all, and now you can all continue bashing the shaigetz apostate with some context!
After decades of subscribing to the nyt I ended the relationship over thirty years ago
It was a rag then and has only gotten worse
They offered me free home delivery for six months. And I refused
Just wondering if his university’ education in a catholic university and American university in Beirut Later station in Lebanon for the times corrupted his mental processes
So Thomas Friedman was jealous of the Orthodox Jew bashers, so he’s looking for his 5 minutes of fame. However, no one really cares because most people know the truth about how he distorts them truth since becoming a journalist.
I am mighty tired of all non Israelis foreign governments included, putting in their two cents about the Supreme Court reform.
It is none of their business. This is akin to someone who comes into your home uninvited and starts criticizing your decor or furniture placement .
And of course once again they only do this to Israel. They never get involved with the internal affairs of Great Britain or France
They should certainly move swiftly with this reform.
The sooner and quicker they do the sooner and quicker it will be a forgotten memory.
It also ends the climate of expectations from oppositions and foreigners (us gvmt etc) that they will be heard and very possibly followed (if they finagle everything they could).
They should continue to act more and “listen intently” less. It is crucial for security going forward.
And the same goes for dealing with the UN. They should retort with how they see things in a vacuum where there is no UN stupidity, rather than lend validity to their approach by actually engaging about it.
